His Excellency, Ato Shiferaw Jarso, Minister, Ministry of Water ResourcesIt is a privilege and honor to me to welcome you all on behalf of the organizing committee and my own behalf to the workshop on “ Water and Land Management Research and Capacity Building Priority for Ethiopia.”
The workshop was conceptualized during the first visit of International Water Management Institut high-level experts last February. Since then efforts have been paid to organize this workshop in a manner it could give the best opportunity to all stakeholders in the field of water and land, which are the most important factor of production for agrarian economy. In the last ten months invitations has been forwarded for public & private institutions, NGO’s and professional to present papers and participate in the workshop. Fund has also risen from different international institutions.
As a result today we have more than 75 participants from 24 government institutions, 8 private institutions, 3 NGO’s, 10 Bilateral and 8 Multi lateral institutions and also freelance experts.
In the Coming two and half day’s; 23 papers will be presented and plenary discussion will also conducted.

For the benefit of our respected guests, who may not able to be with us in the subsequent sessions, I now call upon Dr. Doug Marry to give us a brief high light on the goal & expected out put of the workshop.
